Spring-Cleaning: The Time Has Come | Journey Home Lending

It may be hard to believe, but spring starts in a matter of weeks! The official start of spring is March 20.

Our team at Journey Home Lending wants you to consider using this month to finally declutter and organize your home so that you are ready for anything that might come your way this year, including moving into a new home.

Out With the Clutter

You are not the only one if you have put off deep-cleaning your home. Even hearing the term “spring-cleaning” can have many homeowners running for the hills!

However, spring-cleaning doesn’t have to be such a chore, especially when it can help you greatly in the long run. Check out these tips to help make cleaning your home this spring as easy as can be:

Make a List

One of the biggest reasons for stress around spring-cleaning is the thought of everything needing to be done as soon as possible. When you look at your house as a whole, cleaning it can seem like a huge chore.

But when you break it up room by room, spring-cleaning can seem a lot easier to tackle. Therefore, one of the first things you want to do before starting on spring-cleaning is to make a schedule of what rooms you want to tackle each week. Or if you feel like you can conquer a room every day, set your schedule accordingly.

The biggest thing is you don’t want to feel overwhelmed by the need to clean your home. You want to feel as though spring cleaning is manageable.

Declutter It All

When was the last time you cleaned out your junk drawer? What about going through the clothes in your closet? Spring-cleaning is a great time to declutter your home.

As you go about tackling each room, bring three empty bins with you and label them:

  • Donate
  • Keep
  • Throw away

Then, as you begin to clean the room, go through items and place them in the appropriate bins. You won’t believe how relieved you will feel not just cleaning the room but getting rid of things, too! It will help you to have more space for the things you want to keep, which will in turn make the room easier to clean throughout the year.

Clean Top to Bottom

A mistake some homeowners tend to make is to clean from the bottom first. However, if you do this, all the dust and dirt from the ceiling and such will ruin what you cleaned on the bottom. Remember, we want to make things as less stressful as possible.

Therefore, work smarter not harder by dusting and cleaning from the top down in each room.
