Selling a Home in Autumn | Journey Home Lending
Common knowledge and hard data tell us spring is the right time to sell a home because everything looks better as the world turns green and blooms. It’s also the time when buyers’ wallets thaw and they start looking to buy after winter hibernations.
Still, that does not mean fall is a bad time to sell a home. To be sure, it has its appeal, including that everyone following that spring wisdom means there are fewer homes on the market. That could mean you can sell faster and for more than you might be able to when the market is flooded with stock.
If you decide or have to make the move this season, here are some tips for helping increase your chances of moving that old property so Journey can help you finance your new dream home.
Tips for Selling a Home in Fall
Clean up the yard. This one may seem obvious, but fall is the season of lawn debris and you do not want that laying around when potential buyers drive by or stop in for a tour.
Get that autumn curb appeal. Spray dirt splattered by summer rains off the siding and lay some new mulch in your flower beds.
Avoid the seasonal decorations. It may seem like a plus to give your home a beautiful, autumn touch, but remember you are trying to give potential buyers a blank slate they can imagine putting their own touches on.
Show off that fireplace. If you have a fireplace, light it or, if it’s a gas unit with a remote, leave the remote out and tell the agent to encourage visitors to give it a try.
Check for and seal air leaks around windows and doors. Potential buyers are looking for any issue they may have to deal with if they buy your place, and if they feel cold air coming in from gaps on chilly days, that’s just one more item on the to-do list.
Keep it light. Keep the blinds and curtains open during the day and turn on every available light. Bright rooms feel big, open and happy, and the growing darkness of the season must be combatted to create that bright feel.
No matter the season, when it’s time for you to make a move, trust the experts at Journey Home Lending to provide the guidance and funding you need to buy your next place.
